Welcome to our official city website. My name is Connie Pelletier, the first elected “woman” mayor of the city of Wellston. After you explore our web pages and links, I think you’ll agree that Wellston is a wonderful place to live, work and play. I should know. I’ve spent my entire adult life here.

Wellston Ohio was founded by Harvey Wells during the coal mining boom immediately following the Civil War and we incorporated in 1873. This area of Ohio has a rich history in coal mining. Every year during the first full week in September after Labor Day, residents come out in droves to celebrate our coal mining heritage at the Wellston Coal Festival.

Wellston is home to General Mills’ largest pizza producing facility in the United States and that facility provides employment to hundreds of people in our community. There are also a variety of small businesses in Wellston, from grocery stores to restaurants, building material and hardware sales, attorneys, health care facilities, a large pharmacy, convienence stores, insurance agents, banks, auto sales and repair centers, furniture sales, home supplies, and more.

The City of Wellston proudly operates a full-time and fully-equipped Fire Department, a well-trained Police Department, and a thriving Citizen Crime Watch program. Our local civic organizations include the Wellston Chamber of Commerce, the Wellston Rotary Club, the Wellston Lions Club, the Ohillco (Coal Festival) Society and our ‘Making Wellston Beautiful’ committee. These groups are always hard at work making Wellston Ohio “Everybody’s Hometown”.

We are a city of historic old homes, beautiful churches, lots of shade trees, and wonderful, friendly people. We are very proud of the Wellston City School District. Their campus features all new buildings and facilities from K-12, along with the latest in technology in a modern learning environment to best prepare our children for the future. Wellston is also home to Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School, a preschool and K-8 private school nationally recognized for academic excellence.

Our recreation programs, bike path, and close proximity to Lake Alma State Park and Lake Rupert Nature Preserve provide outdoor enjoyment, fishing, boating, camping, hiking and other recreation opportunities for every person at every age at every season of the year.

** Please note that work on our website will continue through the month of February 2012 as we add information and photos from various city departments, employees, and elected officials. The website is a works in progress. Check back often!

I hope you enjoy the website. Should you visit Wellston, please stop by my office in the City Building and say hello. The door is always open.
